Local Skier to be Olympic Forerunner

Menihek Nordic Ski Club is proud of local skier Kyle Power who has been chosen as a forerunner for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. "A forerunner is a skier that runs the course before competition starts," says club president Gerry Rideout. "A course is laid in by a course setter and director, but frost can settle in the tracks, or it could snow, or the course may need last-minute adjustments. The forerunners race the course as the athletes would." Power's selection as a forerunner is a "cake-topper" for Menihek Nordic Ski Club as George LeFeuvre, one of Menihek's original members is part of the track and course crew and Ed Krats will be in Vancouver in an officiating role. With Power actually out on Olympic snow, Labrador West has a real presence in the upcoming games.
